Every summer I get to visit my sister and her family in Burlington, Vermont for a few weeks. It is a welcome change from the gray pavement of the city. I love waking up to a sea of green grassy hills and walking Kathy, our dog, down to the pond.
This summer, my blog has taken a definite back seat to my life and being away. Many trips, one after another have been fun, but packing and unpacking and getting from here to there have certainly not been conducive to posting. We visited Rome, Sardinia, Amagansett, Sea Island, and Vermont in July.
I wonder sometimes if I even have time for blogging anymore but part of it has been, for sure, a logistical issue. Instead of bringing my laptop, I packed my iPad which is great for reading but terrible for writing. And then, after hanging out for one day with Fit Moms in the City at their launch party I started to run everyday. Which I hate to even announce publicly because I am afraid I will jinx it. I thought I was too old to run but three days at Soul Cycle somehow made me in good enough shape for a run. And the disco balls and loud music at Soul Cycle kind of brainwashed me into wanting to exercise everyday. The time I once spent writing is now spent running.
But since my blog is the way I remember my life–and my summers–I am now inspired to try to do both. Which is hard on days like today when the kids wake up too tired for camp. But, one thing I have learned this year is life is full of unexpected surprises. And taking a day to do nothing when you can is a good idea given who knows what is around the corner.
I took Kathy, our dog, for a walk down the tree lined street. The kids drove the pink electric Barbie car and rode bikes. We all picked wildflowers to try to get some wildflowers growing on the new path to the pond. Now we are writing letters to my eleven year old at camp.
Not very exciting for a blog. Almost boringly perfect. But I will take boringly perfect these days. Even if it means that I don’t have as much to write about.
