Gluten-Free Living: It’s Not Just a “Gastro” Thing

A Celiac diagnosis is not the only reason people choose to eliminate gluten from their diet. Many in the gluten-free community have turned to dietary intervention as a treatment for symptoms not steeped in the gastrointestinal realm, including (but not limited to): developmental delays, behavior disorders, neurological, psychological and (non-gastro) physical maladies, and personal philosophies.

Our three guests for the May 25 meeting–gluten-free advocates Jill Brack of Glow Gluten Free (www.glowglutenfree.com), Tinsley Meloy of Celiebo (www.celiebo.com) and Kirstin Boncher of What to Feed Your Kids (www.whattofeedyourkids.blogspot.com)– will share their experiences and personal perspectives (see biographies below) and we will talk about the GF and GF/CF (gluten-free/casein-free) diet as a treatment for symptoms that are not gastro related.

Jill, Tinsley and Kirstin found their way to GF and GF/CF life via very different journeys but their stories share a common thread: they now enjoy a more fulfilling life because of the gluten-free diet.

Pediatrician and Celiac mom, Jan Montague, MD, (www.tuxedopeds.mymedfusion.com) will also join us, as will registered dietitian Rachel Begun, MS, RD, (www.rachelbegun.com) to answer your medical and dietary questions, respectively. As always, I will also share recent Celiac news and information on upcoming events.

Gluten-free refreshments will be provided by Glow Gluten Free (www.glowglutenfree.com) and The Gluten Free Bar (www.theglutenfreebar.com); Nyack Hospital will supply coffee, tea and cold beverages.

BONUS GIVEAWAY: Gluten-free blogger and author Elana Amsterdam (www.elanaspantry.com) has graciously donated one copy each of her books, The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook and Gluten-Free Cupcakes for giveaway at the meeting. Winners will be chosen blindly; all you have to do to enter the giveaway is show up and keep your fingers crossed!

Please join us for what promises to be a great discussion. Kindly RSVP by email to nynjrockmom@yahoo.com by Friday, May 20, if you plan to attend.
